The 16 November 1532Atahualpa is captured at Cajamarca by the troops of Francisco Pizarro.

The Inca Emperor, recently victorious of the civil war against Huáscarmeet the Spanish without excessive distrust. An ambush is triggered on the central square. The Spanish use cavalry and firearms. Atahualpa is captured, thousands of Inca are killed.

He promises a huge ransom in gold and silver. Despite his payment, he was executed on 26 July 1533.

This event caused the rapid collapse of the Inca power and opened the Spanish conquest of Peru.
